There are bad friends. The internet is one of them.
The internet is the guy who leaves you stranded at the airport when they promised to pick you up. The internet is houseguest who eats the food you were saving for that special dinner with your date. The internet is the one who steals money from your wallet and leaves you stuck at the cash-only restaurant that you had to take the date to because he had eaten the food that you had planned on cooking.
There are bad friends. The internet is one of them. Why? He promises you the world and leaves you with expired links and photos that are too low-res. He gives you things that he swears are original, but instead are copies of copies and the original is no where to be found. He keeps you from hanging out with your other friends. And he encourages you to fall into bad habits — like him. And he’s a bad friend to /everyone/, so you not only look like a sucker when he lets you down, but are now part of a large army of suckers.
He’s not worthless, of course. It might be great to catch up with the internet at a party, but you might want to set him to “acquaintance” rather than “friend”. Don’t ever lend him the keys to your car… and for goodness sake, don’t introduce him to your sister.
Look for better friends… namely real people. Real people with real talents who you can shake the hand of (or punch if you need to). Real friends who can introduce you to other awesome people. Friends who encourage you to be the best you can be and help you to get there… that’s not the internet.
It’s spring break, kids! Get out of the house and meet some real people.
